2018 Margaret's Vineyard Estate Red
Tasting Notes
John makes this wine each year in the style and inspiration of a left bank Bordeaux with Cabernet Sauvignon as the dominant part of the blend - it’s always one of his favorite wines to create. Margaret’s Vineyard is located 1,200 feet above the Walla Walla valley on a north facing slope spanning sixteen acres planted with the six original grapes of Bordeaux - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carménère. The first vintage off Margaret’s Vineyard was 2009 and we made only one wine, Margaret’s Vineyard Estate Red, which contained every cluster we picked that year including Carménère. This 2018 Margaret’s Vineyard Estate Red includes Carménère for the first time since the original 2009 vintage, offering a spicy note that enhances the blend. The blend is 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 11% Malbec, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Carménère. Beautiful dark fruit flavors of blackberry and black cherry are highlighted with a subtle hint of barrel spice. Smooth and very easy to drink, this wine can be paired with savory ribs, grilled eggplant. and a cheese and charcuterie board. Prost!
