Tasting Notes

This is the twenty-year anniversary of Tre Fanciulli.  Named to honor the Bigelow sons (in Italian, Tre Fanciulli means three treasured lads), this wine is always made with three grapes blended together; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah.  The 2019 vintage of Tre is composed of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from Shaw Vineyard, Red Mountain, 25% Merlot sourced from Stillwater Creek Vineyard, Royal Slope, and 13% Syrah sourced from Ciel du Cheval Vineyard, Red Mountain. Dark and showing deep aromas of blackberry and spice, this wine exhibits a beautiful creamy mouthfeel, and a lingering finish.  The 2019 Tre was aged in 80% new French oak, and 20% once used French oak for 20 months.  When John first created this blend in 1999, he did not know anyone making CMS wines (Cab, Merlot and Syrah).  As with many of his wines, John was inspired by another wine, Alexis produced by Swanson Winery in Napa Valley. At the time, Alexis was a Cab/Syrah blend.  John began blending the Cab and Syrah he was barrel aging in the winery (AKA, the Bigelow’s basement in Seattle). He added Merlot to smooth out the wine; a twenty year journey had begun.  Here’s a toast to Tre!
