2020 Mourvèdre
Tasting Notes
The 2020 Shaw Ridge Mourvedre is an exciting new wine for JM. Mourvedre is a variety typically found in Rhone-style blends and not often bottled as a single varietal. John found the 2020 Mourvedre to be exceptional from the start which encouraged him to bottle a portion of it on its own (John added 15% Shaw Ridge Syrah to enhance the color and deepen the aromas and flavors of the finished wine). Approximately 15% of the Mourvedre was aged in a clay amphora offering the wine a subtle minerality. The remaining Mourvedre was aged in a combination of new and used French oak barrels. This wine is delicious.
