2021 Syrah (Shaw Ridge Vineyard)
Tasting Notes
One of the risks of planting a vineyard on a new site is being uncertain of the quality of the fruit in three+ years. Shaw Ridge Vineyard was planted on the top of Red Mountain for JM Cellars by the Shaw Family in 2018, and the fruit has far exceeded our expectations. Our 2021 Shaw Ridge Syrah is 97% syrah, with 3 % viognier, co-fermented. This wine has high altitude characteristics of blue fruit, stoniness, a hint of bacon, and bright acidity. Fermented in French oak vats and aged in French oak barrels (50% new and 50% once used), the wine is complex and smooth on the palate. Enjoy it now, or cellar it for five to seven years for amazing results.
