Tasting Notes

It has been truly amazing to watch the evolution of Margaret’s Vineyard since it’s original planting in 2007. Each vintage of this wine reflects the differences in that year’s weather while maintaining the soft, supple tannins that are a trademark of well-crafted Walla Walla wines. 2016 was another great vintage and the 2016 Margaret’s Vineyard Estate Red shows all of the beautiful qualities Mother Nature provided us. The aroma of the wine reminds us of a basket full of dark fruits, cherries, blackberries and plums. Showing a smooth, easy-to-drink tannin structure that will allow cellaring for 10+ years, but supple enough for early enjoyment. 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc, 18% Petit Verdot, and 9% Malbec.

Ratings of Past Vintages:

91 Points    2013 Margaret’s Vineyard Estate Red, Walla Walla Valley (Cellar Selection)

“Cabernet Sauvignon (45%) takes the lead on this blend, followed by Merlot (30%), Cabernet Franc (20%) and Petit Verdot. The aromas are all high toned, with notes of vanilla, herb and dark fruit. The black-fruit flavors are tightly wound, needing time in the cellar to stretch their legs. Best after 2020.”

93 Points     2012 Margaret’s Vineyard Estate Red, Walla Walla Valley

"A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and the rest Malbec and Petit Verdot, the 2012 Margaret’s Vineyard Estate Red is a big, full-bodied, layered and fabulously pure 2012 that’s loaded with notions of black raspberry, cassis, spring flowers, toasted bread and candied licorice. Aged in 75% new French oak (which has been completely absorbed by this beauties fruit), this inky colored, concentrated and balanced effort will benefit from 2-3 years in bottle, and keep for a decade after that.”
