2021 Ancora Imparo
Tasting Notes
The first vintage of Ancora Imparo was produced in 2018. John was experimenting with fermenting and aging grenache in a clay amphora vessel. He wanted to name the resulting wine, “My Experiment”. (Peggy vetoed that name thinking it might scare folks off.) Fortunately, John came across a famous Michelangelo quote from when the artist was 87 years old. When asked how he continued to improve upon his craft, Michelangelo’s answer was, “Ancora Imparo”, an Italian phrase loosely translated to “Yet I Learn”. John’s been making wine for 27 years, and lives by this motto. This wine is 100% Grenache. 80% was fermented and aged in French oak (50% new and 50% once used), the remaining 20% of the wine was fermented and aged in a clay amphora. The 2021 Ancora Imparo shows flavors and aromas of dark raspberry with a hint of minerality on the finish. If you enjoy big, rich wines, this one is for you. Cheers!
